Toyota Zambia once again hosted their DOTY competition on 3rd June 2017.
This year saw the second running of the competition that was a huge success. Drivers that attend training sessions throughout the year
are given a written assessment to complete and from these results the finalists are selected to take part in the DOTY competition.
Drivers are judged on the quality of their pre-trip inspections, a road test, yard test and finally a written assessment. The scoring
system is simple yet effective, each driver starts with full marks. Points are deducted for every mistake to reach a final score. All drivers
are briefed at the end of the competition as to where they need to improve. Since starting the Hino driver training in 2015 the feedback from
customers are excellent, the main comment made is with regards to the saving on their fuel bill. During the training sessions drivers are taught
the finer points of economical driving, the importance of pre-trip inspections and what to check?
This year saw Tom Mwanza walk away with the honours and a well-deserved cash prize, Kingsley Chibelenga came in second and jointly in
third place was Richard Kuwema and Costa Siakasungu. All Hino truck owners are welcome to contact Toyota Zambia for driver training that is
offered at no charge to customers, training sessions are usually held quarterly but exceptions can be made to do it at any time should a Hino
fleet owner require their drivers to be trained, or re-trained. Training sessions are held on Saturdays to ensure there is minimal impact on a
customer`s business and productivity.
Toyota Zambia offers free driver training to all their Hino customers, to date close to 100 drivers participated and feedback
from customers are very positive. They mainly notice they are experiencing less breakdowns and fuel savings, once a year a driver
competition is held to determine who the best Hino driver in Zambia is.
