On Monday 13th August 2019, Toyota Zambia handed K315, 340.00 to World Vision to renovate and construct classrooms at Milando primary school in Mungwi District of Northern Province.

Since the hand over, great progress has been made at Milando primary school with the construction of the new 1 x 2 classroom block and renovations on another 1 x 2 block completed. The Menstrual Hygiene Facility (MHF) has not been constructed yet due to heavy rainfall in the area. The menstrual hygiene management training targeted at both girls and boys will be conducted when the facility is completed.

The classroom blocks are in use and the upper grades have taken up the new block while the lower grades have occupied the renovated block. Our partner, World Vision Zambia contributed new desks for all the classrooms. As a promoter of quality education, five (5) teachers received training for the Unlock literacy model to enable them to efficiently facilitate the classroom libraries set up at the school under this project.

0n 27th March 2019, a joint team from Toyota Zambia and World Vision Zambia toured the new two completed blocks as well as the 1 x 3 block which was earlier reserved for renovation. During the visit, the school Head teacher shared that the Ministry of Education through the Mungwi District Education Board Secretary’s office instructed discontinued use of this one block due to its bad state. This structure is yet to be brought down in order to avoid any accidents in the event that it collapsed during school sessions. The team was impressed with the community’s commitment towards the project for contributing blocks, sand and stones for the new block which will aid accessibility for lockable book shelves for lower grades.

The head teacher and her staff of Milando Primary School are very appreciative of the assistance rendered by Toyota and World Vision Zambia. The Head teacher said that she already has seen change in the pupils and expects enrolment to increase particularly among girls due to infrastructural improvement as the Menstrual Hygiene Facility is in place.

On Thursday 23^rd August, 2018 in partnership with Mission Pharma Zambia, Toyota Zambia Donated pharmaceuticals, medical consumable and hospital equipment valued at over K100, 000.00.

In his remarks Toyota Zambia Managing Director – Mr. Dino Bianchi stated that Toyota Zambia in close collaboration with other stakeholders shall remain a partner to Beitcure and support the good work that the Hospital has continued to undertake in providing quality health-care to citizens of Zambia most of whom come from  under privileged communities. He said Looking at various areas of common need, Toyota Zambia together with Mission Pharma decided to consider and support four Key areas namely;

Against this background, on Monday 1^st April, 2019, Toyota Zambia and Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia donated a Vehicle to a Japanese Non – Profit Organisation to support Rural Medicine in Zambia (ORMZ) as part of Corporate Social Responsibilities. This event was graced by the Mr. Hidenobu Sobashima, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia -; Chief Chamuka VI of Chisamba, Mr. Chowa Martin District Commissioner of Chisamba, the president of HITACHI Construction Machinery Zambia – Mr. Tajuki Tagawa, Dr, Kayoko Yamamoto the deputy direct of ORMZ and Mr. Dino Bianchi Managing Director Toyota Zambia.

ORMZ was established as a non-profit mobile hospital organisation by Dr. Yamamoto in October of 2011. While this venture was initially privately funded by Dr. Yamamoto, over the years need for more support became key as the outreach programme required more funds. Subsequently Dr. Yamamoto teamed with some individuals and thus establishing Organisation for Rural Medicine in Zambia which is currently conducting weekly mobile clinics activities in Luano and other remote areas in Chisamba district.  Most of these rural communities are about 35km from the nearest health center and ORMZ activities have since been able to benefit 2620 lives of the Luano and the surrounding communities. It is reported that no child died of malaria in 2018 as a result of these clinics.

Toyota Zambia’s partnership with Hitachi in supporting ORMZ is therefore another way of improving the operations of ORMZ as the motor vehicle that was donated will increase Ms. Yamamoto’s mobility during the course of discharging her duties in bringing about mobile medical activities, treatment and health education.

We wish Ms. Yamamoto and ORMZ team great success in this project that is helping and supporting the rural community of Chisamba District.

1. Nutrition – To ensure that adequate nutrition support is initiated as early as possible to speed up the recovery process and time for patients.
2. Laboratory – The lab machines donated included 4 pressure monitors and 4 Acu-Checks will ensure that laboratory tasks are carried out accurately and in a timely manner.
3. Hospital Equipment – in form of ICU equipment namely an Oxygen Concentrator and Baby CPAP as well as other essential equipment that includes 5 Beds and bedside lockers, waste bins and a patient stretcher.
4. Surgical Instruments – A sterilizer to support surgeons perform surgical procedures with safe and reliably clean instruments was also donated.

Both Toyota Zambia and Mission Pharma believe that this donation will help strengthen health care by contributing to the improvement of health status and quality of life, reduce hospital stays and costs, reduce mortality, complications and infections as well as make the hospital equipment readily available and accessible.

Speaking when he received the donation on behalf of Beitcure Hospital, the Executive Director Mr. Steve Hitt expressed gratitude to Toyota Zambia for its support to Beitcure Hospital. He said Toyota Zambia has been supporting Beitcure for the past 10 years that Beitcure has been operating in Zambia. It’s the support that the Hospital receives from Partners like Toyota Zambia and Mission Pharma that enables the Hospital to carry out its work.

The general Manager for Mission Pharma Zambia Mr. Jacob Thorup Cohn said his organization was very happy to part of this program and that Mission Pharma will continue to collaborate with Toyota Zambia and other stakeholders to support quality health care delivery in the country.

Apart from the renovating 5 classroom blocks, a Hygiene washroom facility will also be constructed to ensure Girls at the School have an appropriate sanitary facility that will encourage them not to abscond school. This project will also establish classroom libraries stocked with developmentally appropriate materials to encourage both girls and boys participate in library activities in order to promote a reading culture among learners.  This initiative will transform the school and make it a model School as it will provide a conducive, safe and dignified learning Environment for all learners especially the Girl Child who will now have a facility that supports their special needs.

Toyota Zambia has also assured the Government of the Republic of Zambia and World Vision that it will continue to work with Partners to implement similar initiatives in various communities in order improve the living standards of citizens of this Country.

Toyota Zambia handed over 5,400 Mosquito nets as a contribution towards the Malaria Elimination program by 2021.

In our quest to reaffirm our commitment to supporting the Government of Zambia and Ministry of Health in particular, Toyota Zambia on 24^th August 2017 handed over 5,400 Mosquito nets worth USD20, 000 as a contribution towards the Malaria Elimination program by 2021 which the Ministry of Health launched earlier this year under the slogan “Malaria Ends with Me”.

In a speech read by Chief Financial Officer Thomson Phiri on before of company Managing Director Mr Dino Bianchi, Mr Phiri said that the contribution is in line with Toyota’s core values which are focused on making positive contribution to improving the quality of life for the communities in which we live and work.

The handover event was graced by Honourable Dr. Chitalu Chilufya who is Ministry of Health. In his speech, Dr Chilufya said that the donation of the mosquito nets will go a long way in saving people’s lives. The minister said that there was need for the private sector to align themselves to corporate social responsibility programmes that are key elements to a productivity labour force.

President Edger Lungu has declared malaria as an enemy of development in the country. Government will therefore broker new relationships with the private sector in meeting the aspirations of quality health service.

On 23rd May, 2017 Toyota Zambia andWorld Vision Zambia handed over a 1×2 class room block at Ndaiwala Basic School in Lundazi district built at total cost of K131,000.00 including 40 desks.

The project was funded by Toyota Zambia. During the handover ceremony, TZAM MD pointed out that the project was in line with the company’s core values which are focused on making a positive contribution to improving the quality of life for the communities in which we live andwork.

The Classroom block was officially opened by Lundazi District Commissioner Ms Janet Palukani, also in attendance was the National Director ofWorld Vision Mr. Mark Kelly, Lundazi District Board Education Secretary, Chief’s representative and Village Headmen. In addition to the classroom block handover ceremony, a tree planting exercise was also under taken atwhich 150 trees donated by Toyota Zambiawere planted at the school.

Toyota Zambia donated 120 blankets to the Solwezi General Hospital.

This year Toyota Zambia will support Beit Cure Hospital with a Total of ZWM 100,000.

August 31^st 2016 was yet another special day for Beit Cure and Toyota Zambia Limited as Toyota Zambia reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the provision of quality Health care for the less privileged through partnerships with Health Care providers like Beit Cure.

Toyota Zambia Managing Director Mr. Dino Bianchi stated that this year Toyota Zambia will support Beit Cure Hospital with a Total of ZWM 100,000, payable in two instalments of ZMW50, 000 each and the initial payment for 2016 was made on 31.08.2016.

He further stated that Toyota Zambia and Beit Cure will explore more ways and means of supporting Beit Cure to access more support and funding so that more children can have access to quality medical care.

Mr. Maarten Caspari who is the Executive Director thanked Toyota Zambia for the generous support that Toyota has been giving to Beit Cure Hospital since its inception. “We appreciate the continued support from Toyota and I’m particular heartened from the discussions on ways we can partner together in the future” Mr. Caspari said. The Executive Director further said that it was because of the support and help from partners like Toyota Zambia that Beit Cure has continued to deliver quality health care and bring a lot of hope to kids who need it most.

Toyota Zambia is once again delighted to have reached out to its customers in the health sector and to have played a role in the development and efficiency of delivering health services to patients.

We are happy to have sold a Toyota Coaster on a generous Discount to the Lusaka Eye hospital this year in January 2016 which the director stated that they have been able to utilize for quite a few outreach events to date! Furthermore they were also able to conduct an Eye camp at the Lusaka Eye Hospital, and the patients were transported comfortably in their new bus.

Toyota Zambia partnered with Lubasi Children’s home in improving the life of the children who are our future generation.

The donation of K15, 000 which was presented by TZAM Corporate Affairs Manager Mr. Gilbert Mfuya demonstrates a commitment and its way for Toyota to plough back into the community in which it operates.

Toyota was reliably informed that Lubasi children’s home currently has 43 children of which 19 are girls and 24 boys aged between 2years and 18years. Mr. Mfuya stated that it is the hope and trust of Toyota Zambia that the donation will help provide a conducive living environment for the Orphaned children in their newly constructed home where they will be able to study well and sleep peacefully, a great ingredient for better education and a better future. He encouraged the lovely children present to ensure that they take advantage of this environment being provided by Lubasi Home to aim higher and fulfill their dreams.
